Job Summary

A Chemical Operator is responsible for safely loading and monitoring chemical reactions according to SOPs while ensuring precision in processing. They conduct essential equipment maintenance, package urethane batches as required, and complete assignments following Lean manufacturing principles. Accurate system data recording is a key part of their role, supporting efficiency and compliance. Additionally, they perform physical tasks in a safe and effective manner, contributing to a well-regulated production environment.

Requirements

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Load and monitor chemical reactions per SOP.
  • Perform necessary maintenance on associated equipment.
  • Package urethane batches as required per SOP.
  • Complete job assignments per Lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Accurately record system data as required per Lean standards.
  • Physically able to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience.
  • Previous experience in Lean manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to multi-task with emphasis on Safety and Quality.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft programs Excel and Word.
  • Passing score on a CRC exam.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with vacuum systems will be viewed as a plus.
  • Some college education preferred.
  • Experience with loading and monitoring of chemical reactions requiring accurate additions to meet product specifications preferred.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft programs Excel and Word.

  • May occur to access pipes/equipment in order to remove/install (as needed)

Squatting/Crouching/Kneeling

~ 0 to 10% of shift

  • May occur to install/remove pipes, valves, fittings, drain lines/equipment, etc. (as needed throughout shift)

Bending

~0 to 30% of shift

  • May occur to access pipes/fittings/parts/equipment that are often located in areas with limited/restricted access to required location (i.e. at or near ceiling/ground level, along walls, between other pipe/equipment systems). In addition, crouching/squatting/twisting while reaching may be required to improve access (throughout shift)

Lifting/Lowering/Carrying

~ 5 to 30% of shift

  • Of bags/pails of raw materials (can be in excess of 50 lbs.) (throughout shift)
  • Of empty 55-gallon drums (are in excess of 45 lbs.) (throughout shift)

Pushing/Pulling

~ 20 to 35% of shift

  • When using bung wrench to tighten/loosen drum plugs -3/4” and 2” bungs- (requires force/leverage)

  • When using small wrenches to tighten/loosen nuts/bolts (requires force/leverage)

(throughout shift)

  • To ensure valves are opened/closed (requires force/leverage) (throughout shift)
  • When moving full 55-gallon drums (are in excess of 500 lbs.)

Gripping/Handling

~ 20 to 35% of shift

  • Of various tools (e.g. wrenches) (throughout shift)
  • Of pipes (steel) variable lengths (up to 10 ft.)/variable diameter (1.5 to 2”) /variable weight (can be in excess of 100 lbs.) (as needed)
  • Of ladders to move throughout a building and/or throughout the facility (weight of ladders between 10 and 50 lbs.) (as needed)
  • Of valves to stop/restore flow through pipes (as needed)

Reaching – below shoulder level

~ 30 to 50% of shift

  • To access valves, lever-lock drums (weigh in excess of 50 lbs.), etc. In addition, crouching/squatting/twisting while reaching may be required to improve access (throughout shift)

Reaching – above shoulder level

~ 5 to 10% of shift

  • To access forklift driving compartment (requires force leverage) (throughout shift)
